And I mean fast. So a month ago, I was on top of "the list". Everything was in order, I was wedding planning at least once a week, life was good. Then a storm hit: storm Josh. He came into town for Christmas break (which was WONDERFUL!) and he thwarted my attempts at successful wedding planning. He called it helping, I call it sabotage!!
Week 1:
Me: Josh I'm so excited you're here! Three whole weeks!!! Yay!!! I am really thrilled to get a huge chunk of our wedding planning done with you! We have quite a few big things on the list. Are you ready to tackle them?
Him: *In a sarcastic voice* Yay, wedding planning! What's first on the list!? I can't wait.
Me: Not funny Josh! We have save the dates (which includes getting addresses) rehearsal dinner, website, registry, cake design, reserving hotels and picking out invitations. You KNEW we had to do this... ughhhhh!
Him: Geez, I'm kidding. I am happy to help you, but I still need my down time just fyi.
Me: Okay, I won't drive you wedding crazy, but this stuff has to be done.
Towards the end of week 1, we go to lunch with Jolie and Seth and plan to meet with Jolie's mom for updates and ideas. Josh played video games upstairs with Seth.
Week 2:
Me: Joshua, Christmas is over, it's seriously time to sit down an dget some planning done. I'll make it easy for you. We have to go to two stores this week to register. I'm planning to register at 4, I'll let you pick 2 that you want to go to and we'll start the others online.
Him: Don't you have to take something back to Kohls. Let's go there. Kills two birds.
Me: SWEEEEET!
*We arrive at Kohls, a favorite store of mine. My mother and I have a weakness for shopping in their home section. Anywho, I put Josh in charge of the gun:
Me: Okay we need to register for a toaster. Do you think we should stick with black? White? A color like Red? Or Stainless? Or Brushed Stainless?
Josh: ** Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep** Now you don't have to choose.
*I see how this is going to go, so I try to picture in my head what I want before we hit th next asile, unfortunately Josh has already beat me there..... *beep-ing* away at items he THINKS I'm looking at.
Josh: Are we done yet?
Me: Are you five? C'mon I need a toaster.
Josh: We already went on this aisle! I'm not going down this aisle again. I scanned 5 toasters.
Me: No not that kind of toaster, a toaster oven :) Trust me Josh, one day you will care that all of our appliances match and our towels are the same color.
Josh: No, I won't. If it dries the water off my body, it works for me.
Week 3:
Registry? Check. That's it. It was Josh's turn to take the lead as we planned for the rehearsal dinner. We went to check out some places and I decided this was all up to him!
Josh: So what do you think of that first place?
Me: Oh, this is your thing honey... it's whatever you want. I am not saying a word.
Josh: I know, but what did you think? I mean, I will make the decision, but I want to know if you like it.
Me: I have no opinion. But since you asked twice-- I really think it should be small and intimate, and classy, and elegant, and fun, and not boring, maybe have italian, or if not that then mexican, and if not that then maybe a mixture, but in a really good way; but that might not work so I'd maybe go back to your original idea of possibly having breakfast, but there may be some people who don't prefer that, so we want to be nice to our guests and maybe just have food that everyone likes, but we might have a few vegetarians so we might need a vegeetarian option and I want somewhere that has good ambiance, and if we have older people, I want them to not have to climb a ton of stairs, and some of our friends like to have a glass of wine with dinner so maybe we want it to be at a place where we can have a toast, and didn't you say you were planning on bringing some sort of screen to show videos and pictures because we have to make sure that they will fit in the room and not be too crowded and people have enough places and tables to sit it, and do you think they will keep those awful decorations on the wall and i'm not quite sure that i prefer buffett over seated dinner since our reception is semi-causal, I mean you have to remember that I'm coming from a place where I truly am trying to think about all of the individuals who will be there and especially us because it's OUR freakin wedding day and i just want us to be happy and i want to like the food and that place we just visited may not have all of this so basically that's my opinion.
Josh: **silence**
Week 4:
Me: I'm so glad you're still here! I can't believe you got to stay an extra week! We can plan some more! It's time for save the dates, for real this time Josh.
Josh: I'll give you three hours of my time to complete addresses and save the dates.
Me: Okay, but if it takes longer than that you're giving me more hours.
**Friday evening at my parents house**
Me: Um, how do you create mail merger? Oh, I see. Okay honey, you talk, I type. I can't read half the things in these addresses books.
Josh: (A pretend address so as not to compromise anyone's information) 1234 Spring Valley Road. Oh my gosh, Carla! You are typing so slow. Move. I type, you find the addresses.
** Four hours later**
Josh: You see how fast that went.
Me: Oh yeah, lighting speed. When will we finish th rest of them?
Josh: When we get the addresses
Don't worry friends. There was a happy ending to this story. Josh and I finished our save the dates early on Saturday morning and mailed them out. We made it to the post office with 7 minutes to spare! SCORE! We hope you've enjoyed getting them.
In all honesty, this past month was the best wedding time I've spent with Josh the whole time we've been engaged. We got so much done-- we made a big dent. It's back to business for me. Planning every Friday, but seriously can't believe we less than 6 months away. Check out our website!
