Jury Duty and Wedding Stuff... but mostly Jury Duty!

This past Tuesday, I went to support the foundation of our legal system.  I went to JURY DUTY!  It was my first time going and I've heard several horor stories about it... so of course I went it, sat in the big central jury room and waited for my number to be called.

"Jurror's 180something to 490 something".  That was me.  I stood up, got in line with the others and waited to pick up my "Dallas County Juror" badge.  We rode up the elevator to the sixth floor and waited outside the 116th district court.  I, of course, had my own opinions about what I was going to be asked to do, so I had an AWFUL attitude.  And it didn't help that we waited and waited until the judge sent us to lunch because the attorneys weren't quite ready!  UGH!  So annoying.  Luckily, my sister works downtown so she came to pick me up for lunch-- we also swung by her house to grab some of my work so I would have something to do while I was waiting there.  Good plan.

Upon arrival back at the courthouse, I head up to the sixth floor and we are FINALLY ready to go into this courtroom to hear a little about the case and be "interviewed" by the lawyers.  I was number five to get called in, but I didn't think anything of it.  There was NO way I would be chosen out of the 38 possible jurors present.  We started talking and I quickly realized that several of the possible jurors were attorneys- drat.  That turned it into like a 40% chance.

I always heard that the more you talk the likelier it is for you to get chosen, so I was quiet for the most part.  That is until they started asking ME questions.  I think I just have a personality that says "yes I'm a loyal, fair, and honest citizen".  And lo and behold, I get called up as Juror #1 on the case.  I thought I'd really tried my best to give an outlandish statement while still being "myself"-- EPIC FAIL!  I have since been on a jury of a case I can't WAIT to talk about when it's over.  My students think I've abandonded them and I'm sure people are tired of me calling their phones saying "can you sub for me again tomorrow".  And while at first I had a look of "death to anyone who talks to me" after the judge called my name... this has become quite interesting!  But it better be ending soon... otherwise that look will definitely come back.  Definitely.

So on to the bit of wedding stuff!  I just met with my lovely wedding planner and went over flowers and some reception details!  I am so thrilled with how this is all coming together.  And the big news... I found Joshie's wedding ring.  If you know Josh, he's a plain kind of guy.  He literally likes everything plain.  Burgers, sandwiches, salads, (almost anything food), clothes, sheos, life.  Everything.  So we decided that since he picked out my ring without ANY input from me (despite the hundreds of e-mail hints I sent) to see if he could "pick something that matched my personality", I get to do the same for him.  I can't wait for him to see it :)  Oh and I thought of a really cool wedding day gift for him too!  I'm a wedding planning genius :)

Now I've gotta update our website!

Later
